We’ve come across a few interesting ideas and predictions that provide a glimpse into what the future of work will look like.
Should the iDesk ever become a reality, it is sure to alter the workspace. Designed by Adam Benton, this prototype transforms the stagnant desk into a dynamic tool. By simply placing objects on to the iDesk surface, images and data can be transferred from your smartphone, tablet or camera directly to your desktop computer – allowing your desk to function as a monitor screen. While still in the developmental stages, the iDesk is certainly a plausible technological advancement that we can expect to see in the not-too-distant future.
An infographic outlining how independent workers or solopreneurs will reshape the corporate landscape also caught our attention. MBO Partners, a company who works with the contract workforce, has released its 2012 predictions. Among the findings:
- By 2020 more than half of the private workforce will be independent/contract workers.
- Skilled, independent workers will be tapped for their expertise. This includes the 55+ segment.
- The rise of the independent worker can be based anywhere. Where they are based, won’t be an issue.
If these predictions are true, companies need to have a flexible workspace plan in order to keep these workers connected and productive.
