I recently discovered that less than 1 mile away from OfficeLinks Chelsea office location, there is this unlikely public park: the High Line.

I don’t know about you, but I am ready for some outdoor time. I’m craving fresh air, the sun on my skin, and simply enjoying the outdoors after being cooped up for a few, and what felt like extremely long, months this winter.

I recently discovered that less than 1 mile away from OfficeLinks Chelsea office location, there is this unlikely public park: the High Line. The High Line was originally constructed in the 1930s to life dangerous freight trains off Manhattan’s streets. Now, “Section 1” of the High Line is open as an elevated public park, runs from Gansevoort Street to West 20th Street, and “Section 2” is undergoing construction to be open later this year. When all sections are complete, the High Line will be a mile and a half long park running through the West Side neighborhoods of the Meatpacking District, West Chelsea, and Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen.Free tours of the High Line are available during the spring and summer seasons every Saturday at 11 am, and are an excellent way to learn more about the park’s history, design, and horticulture. Tours last approximately one hour, and are wheelchair accessible.

Kim Beck’s Space Available, the High Line’s first public art commission of the Spring 2011 Season, is also available for viewing. Beck’s three sculptures, resembling the framework behind advertising boards, are installed on rooftop buildings adjacent to the park.

Park hours are 7 am to 8 pm, but are subject to seasonal change. For park information, please call the High Line Information Line: (212) 500-6035.

So, go! Get outside and enjoy the spring!
