Congratulations to our Global IP Law Group: Illinois Super Lawyer and Rising Star.

OfficeLinks’ client and friend Steve Steger, co-founder and managing partner of Global IP Law Group, an international team of attorneys in the U.S., Europe and Asia-Pacific who have created a powerful and compelling approach to monetizing intellectual property (IP) for their clients, has been named a Super Lawyers magazine Illinois Rising Star, and Global IP Law Group’s co-founder David Berten has been named a Super Lawyers magazine Illinois Super Lawyer for the sixth year in a row.

Each year, Super Lawyers magazine, which is published in all 50 states and reaches more than 13 million readers, names attorneys in each state who attain a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement, including the state’s top up-and-coming attorneys under the age of 40 (also known as the Rising Stars).  Polling, research and selection are performed by Law & Politics, a publication of Key Professional Media, Inc.

Steve and David work together focusing on patents, which are the exclusive rights to an invention granted by a government to the inventor for a certain number of years. Their team team sells, licenses and litigates patents and other forms of intellectual property to secure the appropriate balance of value for their clients.

Steve has a broad range of experience in private practice and as Chief IP Counsel at both large and small companies. He has developed IP policies and procedures for mature patent portfolios and for start-up IP management, built internal capabilities for management, licensing and prosecution of multiple patent portfolios, spearheaded the licensing of significant patent portfolios, and has been involved in patent monetization efforts, including litigation that have returned in excess of $50 million in value to his clients. 

David’s representations have concentrated heavily in intellectual property matters including patent litigation involving medical devices, advanced thermal barrier coatings, financial products, vehicle navigation systems, genetic markers, machine vision systems, bar code systems, and cellular-based data entry devices. His litigation experience includes involvement in many European actions, including Oral and Opposition Proceedings with the European Patent Office and Dutch patent infringement actions and appeals.  In addition to his extensive patent litigation experience, David has successfully monetized patents through sales and negotiated licenses. Since 2005, David has successfully closed and funded multiple transactions involving more than 500 patents in fields including internet advertising, vehicle navigation systems, semiconductors, software, multi-antenna signal processing, and others.
